AL-AWS GARDENS
& ECO-LODGES
حدائق العوص والنزل البيئية
A village
in the valley.
On the mountain road from Abha down to Rijal Almaa, the valley of Al-Aws becomes a place to stay: a street of eco-lodges and guesthouses built the Asiri way — dry stone, lime-plastered parapets, juniper beams and timber balconies — with cafés and terraces under umbrellas, a sports lawn, shaded pavilions, and a circular garden on the plateau above, all set into the terrain with as little cut as possible.
All studies, the master plan and design development, the eco-lodge and heritage-village architecture, technical drawings, the BOQ (bills of quantities) and the visualisations and flythrough for this project were prepared by Mohamed Bider for AMSY Group.

Between Abha
and Rijal Almaa.
Wadi Al-Aws lies on the western road from Abha down the escarpment to Rijal Almaa, a valley of terraced farms between the mountains — a natural stop for visitors heading to the heritage village.

The valley

The village street runs along the valley floor beside the lawn and parking; the access road climbs to the plateau, where a circular garden of terraces, paths and shade pavilions looks back over the valley.
Studies.
The project studied as zones, a lodge taken apart, a section through the valley and the movement of the sun. Select a study.
Materials
& colours.
The materials of the Asiri village: grey dry-stone walls, lime-plastered parapets and window frames, dark juniper beams and balconies, woven palm and rope, crazy-paving streets — with red majlis fabric and bougainvillea for colour.
The valley,
visualised.
The village street and its terraces, the tent pavilion on the lawn and the circular garden on the plateau, in cinematic light.
Design renders.
The village, the lodges and the gardens from the final round of visualisation.
